Synopsis

Mientras dure la guerra focuses on the early days of the Spanish Civil War, and follows philosopher and writer Miguel de Unamuno as he faces a moral dilemma over his reaction to events. Throughout the film, Amenábar reflects on the ideological tensions of the time, political polarization and the opposition between Republican and Francoist values. The figure of Unamuno serves as a prism through which to examine the complexities of the war and its consequences for Spanish society, foreshadowing the rifts that would endure until the Transition.
